The Art Spotlight: Oliver Enwonwu, the Art Mogul

Only one thing comes to mind when you come across the name 'Enwonwu', just as one would say Pablo Picasso in Europe, Ben Enwonwu is a name in Nigeria and Africa at large, highly respected for his priceless contributions and achievements, that actively lead the way for the development of Art in Nigeria and Africa. Even decades later, the name Enwonwu is not just a globally immortalized icon of Art, that pierces through various artistic disciplines, but has an ongoing legacy kept alive by the multifaceted Artist, Oliver Enwonwu.

Oliver is the son of Ben Enwonwu, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Omenka magazine, Director, Omenka Gallery and Chief Executive, Revilo. He is an avid collector and patron of the arts, and is currently the President of The Nigerian Society of Artists. Mr. Oliver Enwonwu, who has been entrenched in Art from a very young age, has a very broad scope of knowledge in creating Art, Biochemistry, and many other fields; and in this episode, he speaks about his father Ben Enwonwu, collecting Art as an investment in Nigeria, his multifaceted practice as an artist and his role in the Nigerian Art scene. One must also take note of the legacy Mr. Oliver has made for himself, transcending boundaries, participating in numerous solo exhibitions, numerous solo shows in the UK, at the Royal Commonwealth Society, London, South Africa, the United States and Dublin. His works can also be found among significant collections of art, including those of the Bank of Industry, the Delta State Government and The National Gallery of Art, Nigeria.
